The Atlantic Region’s First Nations communities are filled with untapped human resources trying to infuse cultural wisdom into the foundation of all health care services. Many of these priceless knowledge keepers and helpful spirits simply require a basic understanding of the core competencies of health support work to interface with and strengthen the health care services already being provided.

This presentation will explore the idea of building an accredited culturally foundational and safe counselling and pharmacology training program that can be provided to all First Nations communities in the Atlantic. This program is intended to provide a common language in, and understanding of counselling and pharmacology so that every support in the communities can work together to heal their clients.

Attendees will hear the early plans for this program and be provided with opportunity to advise and direct the program’s content and direction.
